NC Prevention Partners Offers Zone Health and WorkHealthy America

Public schools in North Carolina can access free wellness programs to help create healthier school environments for students and staff. Each program has a unique assessment that provides wellness teams with graded reports and specific, tailored feedback on areas for improvement.  School wellness teams or School Health Advisory Councils (SHACs) develop separate action plans for each assessment that describes goals and objectives for staff and student wellness. Learn more about a webinar scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 28 and find our how your school could become eligible for a $1,000 Zone Health Award.

Reflections Arts Enhancement Grants Available for Local PTAs

The 2012-2013 Mary Lou Anderson Reflections Arts Enhancement Grant application is now available. The National PTA Grant program complements PTA’s long-standing commitment to quality arts education by providing funds to local PTAs to establish or enhance arts programs in one or more of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. The grant awards up to $1,000 in matching funds to student-centered programs geared toward sustaining and enhancing creativity and artistic values for large groups of at-risk students.Submissions are due by Friday, July 13, 2012 at 4 p.m.

Four NC Students Win National Reflections Award

Congratulations to Miles Clinton of Willow Springs, Jennifer Centa of Wilmington, Sarah Heckel of Chapel Hill, and Benjamin Mowers of Kernersville for receiving National Reflections Awards. Winners were chosen from hundreds of thousands of submissions from students across the nation and in European schools serving military families who participated in this year’s program, themed “Diversity Means…”

Creative Ideas Emerge at Parent Education Conference

The North Carolina PTA hosted hundreds of parents, educators and students from across the state in Raleigh at the annual NCPTA Parent Education Conference April 27-28 at the Hilton North Raleigh. Conference presentations and workshops focused on arts in education; the complexity of school funding, healthy school environments, measuring effective teaching, and tools for the new Standard Course of Study.
