PTAs Across the Nation Celebrate Healthy Lifestyles

Throughout the month of November, PTAs nationwide participate in PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month by conducting programs and events that promote health education, physical activity and parent involvement. BCBSNC Offers Physical Activity Equipment Grants

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina is accepting applications for Physical Activity Equipment grants. These are small (up to $5,000) one-time, one-year grants focusing on projects that result in increased physical activity. Applications are due October 26, 2012. Local PTAs should contact Marianne Hedrick Weant for additional assistance with grant application.

NC Prevention Partners Offers Zone Health and WorkHealthy America

Public schools in North Carolina can access free wellness programs to help create healthier school environments for students and staff. Each program has a unique assessment that provides wellness teams with graded reports and specific, tailored feedback on areas for improvement.  School wellness teams or School Health Advisory Councils (SHACs) develop separate action plans for each assessment that describes goals and objectives for staff and student wellness. Learn more about a webinar scheduled Tuesday, Aug. 28 and find our how your school could become eligible for a $1,000 Zone Health Award.
