HB 919 Funding for Driver Education. State funding for driver education is set to expire this year. HB 919 reinstates this funding by providing a dedicated funding stream to continue state funding for driver education.
This bill funds the Driver Education Program, while reducing the allowable fee from $65 to $45 and creates a funding stream with fees beginning in 2016-2017.
- Provides access to available state funds for 2015-2016 through unclaimed lottery funds
- Provides a funding stream through late fees for motor vehicle registrations for 2016-2017
- Reduces the parent fee from $65 to a cap of $45
- Requires DPI to review and make Program changes after the May 2015 NHTSA review to implement best practices
The NCPTA Board of Directors supports HB 919 and is working with the NC School Boards Association, NC Association of School Administrators and NC Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association in support of this bill. HB 919 has been referred to the House Appropriations Committee.
