HB 919 Funding for Driver Education. State funding for driver education is set to expire this year. HB 919 reinstates this funding by providing a dedicated funding stream to continue state funding for driver education. This bill funds the Driver Education Program, while reducing the allowable fee from $65 to $45 and creates a funding stream with fees beginning in 2016-2017. The House today defeated HB 1224, a local sales tax options bill that was tied to a teacher assistant funding fix and an economic incentive program.  HB 1224 would have capped Wake County and Forsyth County sales tax at 2.5%.
