Three PTAs in NC Receive National Healthy Lifestyle Grants

The North Carolina PTA proudly announces that three of only 25 National PTA Healthy Lifestyle: Energy Balance 101 Grants were awarded to PTAs in North Carolina.

Each of the following local PTAs will receive a $2,000 grant:

  • Allen Jay PTA, High Point
  • Irving Park Elementary School PTA, Greensboro
  • Wake Forest Elementary School PTA, Wake Forest

“We applaud our local PTA members for their dedication to improving school communities by creating healthier environments,” said Debra Horton, executive director of NCPTA. “Our staff and board of directors work hard to make sure our PTA members are aware of national resources and opportunities to help meet their community goals.”

The goal of this grant program is to provide local PTAs with resources to educate families on the importance of energy balance, good nutrition, and physical activity to achieve an active, healthy lifestyle. It also aims to empower families to partner with schools to advocate for and support the implementation of healthy changes; provide families with tools to create an environment at home that supports the positive changes at school.

Grant recipients will implement a variety of things, including family education events, family-school partnerships. The local PTAs will also have the opportunity to participate in a webinar training on Energy Balance 101 curriculum and PTA tools. Grant recipients will also be asked to use evaluations forms, and they will have the opportunity to provide feedback via an online survey at the conclusion of the grant.
