Every person who joins a local PTA® in North Carolina automatically becomes a member of both the North Carolina PTA and National PTA. Individual members may belong to any number of PTAs and pay dues in each.
Membership is open to anyone who believes in the mission and values of the Parent Teacher Association.
PTA Dues Information
Total PTA member dues = Local dues + $2.25 for National PTA + $3.00 for NCPTA
Local PTAs establish their own dues.
Dues Remittance
Both national and state dues should be submitted monthly as received to the North Carolina PTA, and the state office submits the National PTA. The membership year runs from July 1 to June 30. Dues is processed on the 15th of each month beginning July 15 for the new PTA fiscal year.

What Is a PTA Council?
A council is an organized group of three or more local PTA units affiliated with NCPTA for the purpose of promoting conferences, communications, leadership development, and coordination of the efforts of such local PTA units. The PTA council’s main purpose is to promote the welfare of children and youth.

File 990.org (Local Unit not Individual Benefit)
File990.org is a new free member benefit. This service allows any unit or council to efile their IRS 990 tax forms. Non-profits including PTAs must file a 990 tax form with the IRS each year by November 15. This free service will remind you to file and link you directly to File990.org’s secure IRS approved filing site.
