Senate Bill 236 Counties Responsible for School Construction passed the Senate and will now be considered by the House of Representatives.  The bill would allow the boards of commissioners in nine counties to remove from local school boards authority to build and own schools.  The bill can be viewed here.

House Bill 269 Children with Disabilities Scholarship Grants passed the House of Representatives this week and will be considered by the Senate.   The bill, approved 76-36, would set aside up to $3 million per year for the grants. Parents with qualifying students would receive $6,000 per year per child to pay for private schooling or educational services related to the child’s disability. The bill, which will now be considered by the Senate, can be viewed here.
