Greetings Fellow Advocates! It is with great pleasure and pride that we welcome you to NCPTA Convention 2025! As President and President-Elect of NCPTA, we are thrilled to invite you to join us for this special gathering, taking place on October 10-October 12 in Raleigh, NC.
This year’s convention promises to be one of our most engaging and inspiring yet. With a dynamic lineup of speakers, insightful sessions, interactive workshops, and plenty of opportunities for connection, we are focused on getting back to our roots so we can build a stronger village to ensure that we help make every child's potential a reality.

Hi NCPTA's History
NCPTA is North Carolina’s oldest and largest volunteer organization advocating for the education, health, safety, and success of all children and youth while building strong families and communities.
- Organized on November 4,1919 at the First Baptist Church in Charlotte
- Mrs. Joseph Garibaldi of Charlotte was elected the first state President
- The NC Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers was organized on April 2, 1927 at Shaw University in Raleigh
- The two Congresses united on April 22, 1969
- Our President-Elect, Dr. Leroy Wray, was born and raised in Charlotte, NC

Raleigh, NC, is a vibrant city with plenty to offer! Whether you're into history, art, nature, or food, there’s something for everyone. Here are some great things to do in Raleigh:
Museums and Cultural Attractions
Raleigh is known for its excellent—and often free—museums, particularly those located in the downtown area.
- North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences: As the largest natural history museum in the Southeast, this is a must-visit. It features four floors of exhibits, including live animals, dinosaur skeletons, and a giant multimedia globe.
- North Carolina Museum of History: Located next door to the Natural Sciences Museum, the Museum of History showcases over 14,000 years of the state's past, from indigenous peoples to modern society.
- North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA): The NCMA campus includes two buildings filled with a vast collection of art from various cultures and eras, as well as the Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park, a 164-acre sculpture garden with walking and biking trails. Admission to the permanent collection and the park is free.
- Marbles Kids Museum: This is a fantastic option for families with young children. The hands-on, interactive exhibits are designed to spark creativity and learning. It also features an on-site IMAX theater.
- North Carolina State Capitol: A beautiful Greek Revival building in the heart of downtown, the State Capitol offers a glimpse into North Carolina's political history. Free guided tours are available on Saturdays.
Parks and Outdoor Activities
Raleigh has an abundance of green spaces, perfect for relaxing, exercising, and enjoying nature.

- Pullen Park: The first public park in North Carolina and the fifth oldest operating amusement park in the U.S., Pullen Park is a beloved destination for families. It features a historic carousel, a miniature train, and pedal boat rentals.
- Dorothea Dix Park: This expansive park on the edge of downtown is a popular spot for picnics, kite-flying, and has a sunflower field that blooms in the summer. It also features the new Gipson Play Plaza, a large adventure playground.
- William B. Umstead State Park: A sprawling natural oasis with over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails, Umstead is a great place to escape the city and enjoy the outdoors. You can also rent canoes or paddleboats for the lakes.
- JC Raulston Arboretum: Part of NC State University, this nationally acclaimed botanical garden is a peaceful retreat for plant lovers. It's home to over 6,000 species of plants and is free to the public.
- Neuse River Greenway Trail: Part of the larger Capital Area Greenway System, this 30-mile paved, uninterrupted greenway is great for walking, running, or cycling.

- Can’t Look Away Movie Screening: Experience a special screening of “Can’t Look Away”, a powerful documentary uncovering the devastating impact of social media on young users.
