PTAs Increase Male Involvement with WATCH D.O.G.S.

High Five to Benjamin Martin Elementary PTA in Fayetteville for being selected as the December membership theme winner.

NCPTA invited local PTA members to share male involvement and membership success stories in 2013. Angel Hoggard, PTA president at Benjamin Martin Elementary recently participated in a training and spoke to Debra Horton, executive director of NCPTA, about a new WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program that they launched at their school. “This is such a wonderful program brought to us when I went to the conference in Raleigh last spring”, said Hoggard. “I came back with such enthusiasm that I knew that my school would soon be as excited as I am!”

The program is doing very well, and she was contacted by the Fayetteville Observer to come and meet some of their male PTA members. After an initial launch in September, they did not have many men sign up, but it took off after an official day with WATCH D.O.G.S. on campus! “They love the way the children respond to their presence and give them a high-five whenever they see them in the hallway,” said Hoggard.

Hoggard brags about how the program is thriving and successful, and she says that she receives positive feedback from the participants. “Thank you so much for all the training that you offer and the fact that I never feel like I am alone on my venture to improve my team and myself,” said Hoggard. “We all strive to do what is best for the children, and knowing that these men care enough to give their time lets me know that I am not the only one who cares for our children here at Ben Martin.”
