NCPTA is hiring an Advocacy Program Coordinator!
The North Carolina Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA) is the state’s oldest and largest volunteer organization advocating for the education, health, safety and success of all children and youth while building strong families and communities. PTAs across North Carolina impact more than 685,000 children and their families.
The Advocacy Program Coordinator will be responsible for membership engagement, capacity and partner building, developing educational materials, and coordinating and assisting with advocacy trainings to support NCPTA’s wellness policy campaign. The Advocacy Campaign Coordinator will work with the Director of Health Programs and report directly to the Executive Director.
This is a part-time, grant-funded, contracted position from date of hire through September 30, 2018.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Health Programs and Executive Director to create and implement campaign to equitably strengthen wellness policies and wellness policy implementation in North Carolina including:
- Assessing local wellness policies and SHACs in 115 LEAs
- Liaising with state officials
- Updating informational materials for new audiences
- Develop coalition of stakeholders to advocate for equitable implementation of strong local wellness policies at the state level and coordinate stakeholder meetings including:
- Assessing current stakeholders and partners to identify opportunities to engage diverse voices
- Engaging members to engage in advocacy
- Organize advocacy and training events
- Plan and develop communications with members, elected leaders, coalition members, and the general public about local wellness policy including:
- Creating a social media toolkit and talking points
- Creating pitch packet for media
- Creating segmented communications
- Creating and distribute action alerts to members
- Creating and distribute local messages and calls to action
- Scheduling and create member communications
- Provide bi-weekly reports to funding organization
Qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor’s degree with a strong emphasis in health, communications, and/or government relations with applicable work or volunteer experience
- Working knowledge of the political and legislative environment of North Carolina preferred
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local policies that impact school health and wellness preferred
- A knowledge of and commitment to NCPTA’s non-partisan advocacy work and the history of PTA advocacy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Passion for NCPTA’s mission and vision
