Call to Action for PTA Presidents and Advocacy Committee Chairs

North Carolina PTA hopes all PTAs in North Carolina will consider coordinating an Elected Officials Go to School program at your school before the General Assembly convenes on May 14.  The purpose of this program is to give legislators and other policymakers an opportunity to spend a day at your school and interact with staff, teachers, parents and students.  Information on how to put together an Elected Officials Go to School event can be found here.  This link includes a sample invitation for your local legislators or other elected officials.

As an incentive to get local PTAs engaged in this program, NCPTA will select leaders of one local PTA that takes part in the program to come to Raleigh for a day at the Legislature during the General Assembly’s 2014 short session.  NCPTA will cover travel and meal expenses for select leaders to be a part of this experience.  To be considered for this selection, please send a description of how your Elected Officials Go to School program went and pictures of the day to [email protected] by May 10, 2014.

We look forward to hearing about the positive experiences that you and your elected officials have during this event.  The Elected Officials Go to School program was recently recognized by National PTA a good example of a program that gets elected officials in schools!
