Just ASK! Healthy Schools Grants Available for PTAs in NC

PTAs play an important role in engaging parents, teachers, and children to live healthier lives. NCPTA is offering Just ASK! Healthy Schools Grants for eligible PTAs in North Carolina. Grants of up to $1,000 are available for 2014-2015. The grant funds must be used for a health project or program that will be completed by June 15, 2015. PTAs are encouraged to apply for funding to support healthy school environment projects. Apply online by October 31, 2014.

NCPTA Co-hosts Healthy Living Back-to-School Event in Weldon

Hundreds of students, parents, school and community leaders in Weldon joined together at Weldon High School on August 14 to jumpstart a healthy new school year. The event was hosted by NCPTA, Weldon City Schools, and Weldon City Police Department. Many community resource friends displayed booths with helpful information on healthy living and student services. Parents received tips on student nutrition and the importance of exercise.Students were treated to prizes for knowing answers to health trivia questions. Wake Forest Elementary PTA Receives National Healthy Lifestyle Grant

NCPTA proudly announces that Wake Forest Elementary PTA of Wake County was awarded a $2,000 National PTA Healthy Lifestyle: Energy Balance 101 Grant. The goal of this grant program is to provide local PTAs with resources to educate families on the importance of energy balance, good nutrition, and physical activity to achieve an active, healthy lifestyle. It also aims to empower families to partner with schools to advocate for and support the implementation of healthy changes; provide families with tools to create an environment at home that supports the positive changes at school.

The North Carolina Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA) applauds and supports the inclusion of Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) in both the findings and recommendations that were adopted by the North Carolina General Assembly’s House Legislative Research Commission (LRC) Committee on Food Desert Zones and approved by the main LRC on May 13.
