York Elementary PTA Receives John Rex Endowment Grant for Healthy Weight Project

Children and families in the York Elementary school community will soon have a whole new way to get moving while they learn. With support from a recent grant from the John Rex Endowment, the York Elementary School PTA has developed a detailed rendering of a planned playground renovation and paved school track, which will provide a safe space for active play, team sports, passive play and outdoor learning activities. NFL, National PTA Join Forces on Youth Health and Fitness

The NFL and National PTA will launch a nationwide partnership on youth health and fitness this fall. The “Back to Sports” initiative will help PTA leaders across the country educate their communities on youth wellness—from concussion education to NFL PLAY 60 tips on nutrition and staying active. Local PTAs will plan “Back to Sports Nights,” engaging parents and community leaders on ways to help their kids stay safer and healthier as they head back to the sports field this fall. Just ASK! Healthy Schools Grants Available for PTAs in NC

PTAs play an important role in engaging parents, teachers, and children to live healthier lives. NCPTA is offering Just ASK! Healthy Schools Grants for eligible PTAs in North Carolina. Eight grants are available for up to $1000 for 2013-2014. The grant funds must be used for a health project or program that will be completed by June 2014. PTAs are encouraged to apply for funding to support healthy school environment projects. Apply online by September 20, 2013.

National PTA will award 25 Healthy Lifestyles Energy Balance 101 Grants of $2,000 each to local PTAs for family education events targeting specific grades. Title I schools are strongly encouraged to apply. Families and Educators in Ahoskie Participate in Team Up for Healthy Learning

The North Carolina PTA and NC Action for Healthy Kids co-hosted a third Team Up for Healthy Learning event on March 14. Ahoskie Elementary hosted families and educators for an evening focused on improving school wellness environments. Action for Healthy Kids Offers School Grants

School Grants for Healthy Kids are available for the 2013-2014 school year. Action for Healthy Kids has officially opened applications for grants to create or expand school breakfast programs. PTAs, individual schools, or districts may apply for these funds. PTAs that wish to apply for the grants must work cooperatively with the principals and child nutrition managers in their schools to oversee the grant process.
