State Superintendent to Hold Media Briefing on School Performance Grades

State Superintendent June Atkinson will hold a media briefing on the School Performance Grades immediately following the conclusion of the State Board of Education Meeting (around 11:45 a.m.) on Thursday, Feb. 5. The briefing will be held in Room 224 of the Education Building, 301 N. Wilmington Street, Raleigh. North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Accountability Services Director Tammy Howard and North Carolina School Report Cards State Coordinator Diane Dulaney will join Atkinson at the briefing to respond to questions as appropriate regarding the School Performance Grades and the North Carolina School Report Cards. Cullowhee Valley PTA Engages Community to Help Build Playground

Over 50 volunteers from the community, Western Carolina University, and Cullowhee Valley School came out to help build a new playground for the elementary school on August 15-16. STEM Career Showcase Offered for Students with Disabilities

Students with disabilities in grades 6-12 are invited to attend a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Career Showcase Wednesday, October 15 from 10 am to Noon at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Meet Mandy Patterson! She joined the board of directors of the North Carolina PTA this year after a long history of PTA membership and volunteer accomplishments. Mandy has been involved with the PTA for 8 years. Her previous leadership roles include president, treasurer, vice president of family nights and fundraising and various committee chair positions at both the elementary and middle school levels.
