Northwoods Elementary PTA in Cary received some wonderful praise from members of the community for their Bike to School Day success. The event brought out 75 children plus parents! NCPTA received a copy of a note of thanks from a parent who wanted to commend the organizers for the opportunity to exercise and to meet other parents. She credits the event for getting her daughter to ride her bike and opening the door for riding bikes together in the future. NCPTA Nominee Sydney McCoy Honored by National Action for Healthy Kids

Over the past year, the North Carolina PTA has teamed up with NC Action for Healthy Kids (NCAFHK) to provide learning opportunities related to school wellness. When NCPTA learned about Sydney McCoy, a young wellness hero and local celebrity chef in Apex, they brought her to the attention of NCAFHK. National PTA Stands with Oklahoma PTA in Assisting Tornado-Ravaged Families

The Oklahoma PTA, with support from National PTA and its network of PTAs across the country and overseas, commits to help restore the school communities affected in this week’s deadly tornadoes. “This week’s severe weather in the Midwest literally hit home,” said National PTA President Betsy Landers. “All three of the schools ravaged by tornadoes in Moore, Oklahoma have active PTAs, and our family has suffered unimaginable loss. NCPTA High Fives Schools in Wake County That Offer SAFEchild Program

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and NCPTA wants to make sure PTA members and families know about the resources provided by SAFEchild. A big high five goes to all Wake County parents and educators who have helped SAFEchild provide the Funny Tummy Feelings program in schools. SAFEchild empowers more than 6,500 students every year with this interactive program that teaches children skills to protect themselves from physical and sexual abuse. North Carolina Celebrates School Bus Driver Appreciation Week

February 11-15, 2013, has been proclaimed “School Bus Driver Appreciation Week” by North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory. School communities and citizens are urged to support the American School Bus Council’s Love the Bus program. According to the proclamation, more than 13,000 school buses carry more than 790,000 students to and from school every day across North Carolina. State Superintendent June Atkinson will ride the bus to Ellenboro Elementary School (813 Piney Mountain Church Road, Ellenboro) with students on February 14, 2013, and take part in a morning program to thank school bus drivers.
